2020 is a big year for so many reasons! Sadly, it’s also been one we all want to forget very quickly.
I officially dropped off my mail-in ballot today and I’m finding myself really thankful that this was such a heavily embraced option this voting year. Voting in 2020 for me, an American female, is also a big deal for another reason that I haven’t heard much about anywhere else and it’s really surprising. This is the 100th anniversary since the women’s right to vote for the first time in 1920! And that was after women spent 100 years trying to get the right to vote to begin with. This is a big deal!
I tend to shy away from politics since debate and confrontation make me super uncomfortable. The last time I voted was also the first time I voted, back in 2012, when I was extremely pregnant with JT. The whole experience I went through to vote in person was something I didn’t want to repeat again and it kept my vote uncast and silent for the next two elections, but that’s only because I knew nothing about the option to do a mail-in ballot.
2020 has been a 1 star yelp review as a whole, but it’s obvious my review was taken seriously and improvements were made since my last review date so I can see some good changes coming in the not too distant future. I’ve been very motivated to make my voice heard in this election year, and I think that’s an experience I share with most women in our country right now.
Where will we be in 2120, another 100 years from now…? It’s both exciting and upsetting to think about, considering just how long it has taken us to create equality for all thus far.
